You need to submit it into Google Classroom by Friday at 11:59 PM, or it is late, and you will lose half the points. ***Your quarter grades are posted in Aeries. If you have a D or an F, you are in danger of failing and not passing, which

- We talked about our plan IF school closes, students should be checking their school email accounts and the website for information on assignments and what to do while we're out of school.
- Completed watching Blackfish and students had 10 minutes to complete their video guide. Students who finished their packets turned them in. The packet is officially due tomorrow for students who are not.
- We handed out the last letter assignment to a changemaker. You can find the handout below.
- Students had the rest of class to research quotes that address the issue they are writing about and start writing their letters. The letter to a changemaker is due on Friday, March 20.

- Went through the schedule for the week. Mrs. Escobar will be coming to class on block day this week to help students enroll in community college. Not all students will need to do this, but if you are planning on going to community college, please sure to select which one they would like to enroll in. We will be watching Blackfish this week, and the worksheet will be due on Friday.
- One student presented.

- We went over the presentation requirements for the SLP project. You can find the directions below along with additional copies of the Service Learning Proposal and Hours Log. The log and presentation are due on Monday, March 2nd! You need to post your presentation in Google Classroom by the time we get to class on Monday.

- FASFA applications are due on March 2nd.

- We had to cancel the field trip due to lack of interest and students who are failing classes missing instructional time.
- Students had time in class to work on their job application and cover letter, which is due on Friday!
- Students should be working on getting their 20 hours signed off for the SLP and start working on their presentations - both are due on March 2nd.
Monday, February 24, 2020
- We went through the schedule for the week. Reminded students that they need their SLP time sheet completed because it's due on Monday! They also need to complete their presentation by Monday, but students will have time in class on Thursday to work on them. Students should be taking photos of themselves at work for their presentations.
- Students received a copy of a sample job application for their next letter, which is an application letter. If students are actively seeking employment they are encouraged to complete an application for that place. Students will need to complete the application and second letter, which is a job application cover letter, by Friday. Students had the opportunity to use the chromebooks to search indeed.com and/or monster.com to find jobs they may be interested in to write their cover letter. We also went through and discussed the directions for their cover letters. You can find a copy of the application below.

- We ran through the schedule for the week. Students need to complete their 20 hours for the SLP and the presentation by Monday, March 2nd. Students need to bring their signed permission slips by Thursday, February 20 if they would like to go on the FLC trip next week.
- Students had time to make sure that their works cited is completed for their Choice Project Presentation, which is due on Thursday. They also made sure they knew who was presenting what slide on their presentation so they can rehearse before Thursday. They will have no more time to work on their presentations in class. Students need to upload their presentations to Google Classroom by Thursday.

- Reviewed the schedule: Students need to complete the 20 hours for the SLP and their presentations by March 2nd. Students need to bring their signed permission slips by Thursday, Feb 20th for the field trip on Wednesday Feb 26th. They have a NRI assignment due on Friday by 8:00 A.M. and will have a quiz. Students should complete their books and their 4th Dialectical Journal by Thursday, February 13. Finally, the final draft of their College & Career Essays are due (printed) by Friday, February 14. They MUST revise their rough draft to get credit for their final draft.

- Mrs. Escobar came down from the College and Career Center and helped students complete their FAFSA applications. Most students did not come to class with the parent information for the FAFSA application so they worked on their Choice Unit presentation/book. FAFSA applications are due on March 1st is the deadline to be eligible for free tuition for Fall 2020.

- Students turned in their first Dialectical Journal. Only a couple of students actually turned in their completed journal, so they may complete it later and submit for half credit.
- Students had time in class to finish their Finance Packet in class. If they don't finish in class, they need to complete it at home and submit it tomorrow.
- Students met in their reading groups to share their quotes/summary. They also started their Slides Presentation, focusing on the Author and Setting slides.
- Students should be continuing to read their SSR book outside of class because they need to be completed by Feb. 13.

- Went through the schedule for the week. Reminded students that their 20 hours and presentation for the Service Learning Project are due on March 2nd. This week students will have a NRI assignment due on Friday, they will need to complete their first section of reading for their Choice Unit book and their first Dialectical Journal will be due on Thursday, in addition to their Budget Packet. Also, on Friday, students need to bring their Social Security Number, so we can work on setting up their FAFSA account.
- We worked on the Budget Packet. We completed the Clothing, Food, and Extras pages in class. Students who haven't completed all of the pages through the Extras page, need to do so outside of class. We will have some time in class to finish the packet on Friday.

- Reviewed the portfolio and encouraged students continue adding to them. We also encouraged them to get letters of recommendation because they will need them in the future.
- Students had time to finish their budget assignment from yesterday. If you don't complete it, you need to complete it at home and bring it in. Students who finished had time to work on their NRI assignment that's due Friday by 8:00 A.M.
- We also worked on an assignment to help students understand budgeting in regards to housing. You can find a copy of the handout in the classroom.

- We showed the students the FAFSA website and told students that we would be working on having them fill out FAFSA when we return from break. We encouraged them to get started on the process if they have nothing to do over break. - Went over the schedule for the week. We are going to start reading Tree Girl and that is what the final will be on at the end of the semester. Students need to complete Mayan notes/paragraph by Thursday. There is also a NRI assignment due on Friday at 8 AM. Career Assignment needs to be submitted to Google Classroom by Thursday at midnight.
- Handed out/went over the Mayan Culture assignment, which you can find below. Students need to create a 3 Column Note page to take their notes out. Heading goes on the left hand top corner (Your Name, Teacher Name, Course, Date), the topic is Maya and goes on the right top corner of the page, the EQ is Why were the Maya considered the most advances of all Meso-American cultures and it should be at the top of the page. Under the EQ, students should break their page into three equal columns. The headings for each column are People, Places, Beliefs. They need to write notes for each column to the bottom of the page. They also need to write a paragraph using 3 quotes in their paragraph on the back of the page. Mrs. Hedegard recommends writing their three quotes in the notes. TThe assignment is due on Thursday.

- Briefly told students about the Service Project we will be discussing on Monday and told students about a community service opportunity volunteering at the Harvest Festivals at local preschools. There is a sign up sheet for October 19th for a festival at Markham Middle School in Placerville. We will give more details on Monday.

- We went over the schedule for the week. Students need to make sure they completed Tuesdays with Morrie and the reading guide - they will have to turn in the reading guide and take the unit test tomorrow. They will also have a NRI assignment due on Friday at 8:00 A.M.
- Aphorism Essay for Tuesdays with Morrie. Handed out the prompt and went through the due dates. Students need to complete the Pre-writing sheet in Google Classroom by Friday. The printed rough draft needs to come to class on block day next week (October 10, 2019), so we can do peer editing. - Reviewed what the homework is for the week since we will have study time at the end of class to get things done.
- Read 164-178 in TWM. If you missed any of the book, be sure you catch up by Tuesday next week when the reading guide is due and we will take the unit test. In the reading guide students only need to answer the first 2 questions and the last question on page 13 (they don't need to complete the newspaper articles). On page 14 they do need to complete the research from the time period. They also need to do all of page 15.
- For the rest of the period students could write their cover letters or personal data sheets, which are due on Friday.

- Talked about the upcoming College Fair at Union Mine High School on September 24, 2019 from 6:30-8:15. We will give extra credit for going. There will be an alternative option for students who can't get to Union Mine.
- Handed out a character list for TWM (which you can find below), read pages 42-53, students worked in groups to complete the study guide (Audiovisual through the Taking Attendance page, but we will do the collage in class on Friday). If you are missing any of the pages through Taking Attendance, you need to complete them at home.
- Students got a chromebook to check their comments on their essay in turnitin.com and revise their essay, which will go in their portfolio.
- Homework - students need to complete their noredink.com assignment by Friday morning at 8:00 A.M., they will have a quiz covering the last few noredink.com assignments on Friday. They need to turn in the optional vocab assignment if they would like to retake their vocab quiz from last week. - We read the Vocational Education article (you can find it below) to the class. After reading, students got into groups and had to annotate the article. They had to 1). Find the claim and underline it and 2) Write in the margin (using their annotating guide) and visualize, summarize, clarify, connect, respond, and question something in the text. Students also got the current event handout and had to complete the front and back. You can find a copy below.
